Our History Background

A Fruit Stand That Has Been A Local Landmark in South Florida Since 1959

Robert Is Here is a family-owned and operated fruit stand in Homestead, Florida. We specialize in Rare & Exotic fruits and vegetables, mostly grown right here on our farms.

1959

Early Beginnings

Robert Is Here began in 1959 when a local farming family that ran Moehling’s Slick Chick Egg Ranch, put 6 year old Robert on a roadside stand to sell cucumbers. On the first day, no one stopped. The next morning, his father added a hand-painted “Robert Is Here” sign—and by noon, Robert had sold out. What started as a simple effort quickly grew into a beloved, family-run fruit stand featuring fresh, local produce.

1980’s

A Family Ordeal

Robert, his mother Mary, and sister Rose ran it as a family business from the very beginning, with his mom creating many of the jarred recipes still sold today. As the stand grew, so did Robert’s family—with his wife Tracey and their four children Brandon, Victoria, Robert, and Savannah, all becoming part of the legacy.

1992

Hurricane Andrew

Despite challenges like Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the family remained resilient and optimistic while Robert rebuilt the fruit stand to what it is today. The local community rallied around him, offering support and encouragement that helped restore not just the structure, but the spirit of Robert Is Here.

2000’s

Everyone Knows Robert

Although Robert and his family have shared his story many times, it was usually a brief version centered on the fruit stand’s early days. To tell the full story, he spent over a year and a half with historian Cesar A. Becerra, along with help from family, friends, and customers. The result is Robert Is Here: Looking East for a Lifetime—a 387-page book released on October 11, 2015, capturing the rich history, challenges, and life lessons behind the iconic stand and farm.

Present

 Building the Legacy

Today, Robert Is Here remains a beloved landmark rooted in family, farming, and decades of honesty, dedication, and hard work—the same values Robert credits for its success. Shaped by rich history and humble beginnings, the stand continues to thrive as his children Brandon, Robert, and Savannah carry on his legacy every day, joined by Brandon’s wife Heather and Robert’s wife Anna, who also play active roles in the family business. Now, Robert’s seven grandchildren are becoming part of the story too, proudly stepping in as the fourth generation of the family’s farming tradition. With the next generation leading the way, Robert Is Here continues to grow while staying true to the traditions and community it has served for over 65 years.
