FAQ

1.  Why is this place called Robert Is Here?

a)       You can read the full story on the Home Page, but here’s the abbreviated version: When Robert was 6 years old, his father set him on the corner to sell some cucumbers that were not selling at the market.   He sat on this very corner all day long and not a single car stopped. His dad figured that there couldn’t be that many people that didn’t like cucumbers; that they must not have seen his little boy sitting on the corner. The next day, his father removed the hurricane shutters from his house and painted ROBERT IS HERE on them so the people passing by would notice him. Robert sold out and walked home within a few hours. He started setting up shop every day and nearly 50 years later, he is still here every day to set up his store.

2.        How do you make your milkshakes taste so good?

a)       The key to a good milkshake is the fresh fruit. We cut all the fruits by hand and use only the best tasting ingredients. Our ice cream is actually ICE MILK, which is a combination of low fat ice cream and yogurt.

3.        Are you open every day?

a)       Yes, we are open every day with the exception of September and October. During those two months, we prepare our farms for winter vegetables and we also take the time to re-paint and freshen-up the store. From the first weekend in November through the last weekend in August, our hours are 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. every day (including all holidays).

NOTE: The only holidays we have alternate operating hours are Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. On Thanksgiving, we are open from 8 am to 5 pm. On Christmas Day, we are open from 12 pm to 7 pm.

4.        Do you grow all your own fruits and vegetables?

a)       It would be difficult for us to grow everything we sell, but we do grow a large portion of it. The items we don’t grow, depending on the time of year, we buy from local farmers that have been in the Homestead area for generations.

5.        Can we take our items home on the plane with us?

a)       Yes, you may bring many of the items home with you; however, you must remember that airline regulations prevent you from packing things such as Dressings and Jams in your carry-on luggage. Also, you generally cannot take fruits or vegetables on the plane with you if you are flying internationally. In any case, we are happy to ship your items home for you via UPS or FedEx.

6.        Where are you located?

a)       We are located a couple miles West of Florida’s Turnpike, just outside of Florida City, FL.

From the North: Take Florida’s Turnpike South to the end, turn right on 344th St., and continue a couple miles until you see us on the left at the 4-way-Stop intersection.
